The vineyard is located near the village of Loutra (a settlement of Traianoupolis) in the Municipality of Alexandroupolis. The winery and its wines were given the commercial name "Via Egnatia" because the vineyard is located next to the ancient Roman Via Egnatia that connected Rome with Constantinople. Remains of this great road can still be found in the area today. The importance of the place was so great that the Roman emperor Trajan (Marcus Ulpius Trajan (98-117 AD), in the 2nd century AD, built ancient Trajanoupolis and created a place of healing and relaxation, the thermal baths of Trajanoupolis. The famous springs of Trajanoupolis, which have hosted Emperors and Sultans, operate to this day with recognized thermal springs. The therapeutic waters of the area are known for being rich in hydrochloric and thermometallic elements, which are indicated for the treatment of rheumatism, disc disease, as well as liver and kidney diseases.
The producer's vineyard covers an area of 20 acres and was created in 1990 by Mrs. Bahtsevanidou's father. The varieties grown within it are primarily wine grapes and secondarily table grapes. Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscat Hamburg, and Rozaki, the winemaking grape varieties and Sultanina, Cardinal and Victoria the table varieties.
No Thracian or Hebritic grape varieties are cultivated in the vineyard.
The producer produces 5,400 bottles of wine each year under the trade names, Via Egnatia Red Dry, Via Egnatia Semi-Sweet, Via Egnatia White Dry, Via Egnatia White Dry.
From the marc, it also produces 500 kilos of tsipouro every year.
The winemaker sells the wines produced throughout Thrace, to individuals, to stores, to friends and acquaintances.
